O projeto de lei foi encaminhado ainda em 2018 pelo vereador Tiago Caio. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A justificativa referente ao projeto inclui dados do grande volume de canudos consumidos no pa\u00eds e do impacto causado no meio-ambiente, bem como o exemplo de outros pa\u00edses e da capital do Estado, Porto Alegre. O chefe do Executo, Celso Kaplan, que sancionou a lei, frisa que a proposta \u00e9 compat\u00edvel com um conjunto de a\u00e7\u00f5es que o munic\u00edpio j\u00e1 v\u00eam desenvolvendo, em prol do meio-ambiente, como coleta de lixo no interior, coleta seletiva, e a\u00e7\u00f5es de conscientiza\u00e7\u00e3o nas escolas e com a comunidade em geral.Vale ressaltar que a proibi\u00e7\u00e3o n\u00e3o se aplica a canudos de papel ou de material biodegrad\u00e1vel.
